Key Stage One Sports Day

On Wednesday the 30th of May, it was an exciting morning for Key Stage One as Sports Day arrived. The parents started arriving and getting seated, and the chants got louder and louder as Ms. Kemp motivated the young athletes, forcing Dona Lesley to pull out her megaphone in order to be heard.
The races started, a thunder of little feet pounding on the ground. The races varied from sprints, bean bag and ball race, egg and spoon, basketball dribbling and at last the uniquely-styled relays, where the children had to run and capture their team mate in a hoop; in some cases it ended up with two children in a hoop and running (not the idea, but very entertaining all the same). All the children were gleaming with pride, as were parents, at how well everyone had run. It was a close call but the end results were: in third place Red, second Blue, and first Green.
To finish off a great morning, the children were allowed to watch the mums and dads race (thanks to Senhor Paulo’s encouragement). Children cheered on their ‘mummy’ and ‘daddy’ and, determined to make their youngsters proud, the mums and dads raced as fast as they could. An amazing discovery was made in this race; finally everyone can relax as we have found the new James Bond of our school, as one father made an amazing, action-packed finish by rolling over the finish line, much to everyone’s delight. Ice creams were then handed to all children, teachers and helpers.
