Cross Country Tournaments

By Emma Stevens
Year Eleven

This year’s cross-country teams have surpassed all expectations, returning from both competitions with numerous trophies and medals.
The first competition took place in January, in Loulé, where eight teams from EISL competed against Portuguese and international schools from the Loulé Câmara. All teams did very well but the girls teams were outstanding, with all four girls’ teams returning to school with a trophy. Division 5 girls got 3rd place, division 4 with 2nd place, division 3 with 3rd place and varsity girls with 2nd place. Charlotte Stovold and Emma Stevens narrowly missed out on individual placings with 5th and 4th place. Charlotte Peet, Jojo Peet and Elodie Stoetman came in 3rd, 4th and 5th place.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the morning. There was music, free lunches, and lots of spectators and supporters. It was a great opportunity for all the students to practice their Portuguese and meet students from other schools. The day was rounded off when the school received a trophy for 5th place overall performance.
The next competition was at Vilamoura School, on Saturday 3rd March, and was attended by eight international schools from all over Portugal.
Again it was a successful day for EISL. More than 40 boys and girls represented EISL and this time the boys improved their performance to match the girls with medals. Again division 5 girls achieved 3rd place, and varsity got 2nd. Special mention should go to Sam (Slisel) Pugsley and Ross Laurie as they were the only competitors for EISL, in a very large division.
Other successes were the varsity boys, of which we had two teams, who earned medals for 3rd-place team. Outstanding performances were given by Andrew Adamson, who narrowly missed 3rd place and captured 4th, and Lucas Boyes who came in 2nd. The winning runner was a student from Vilamoura who runs for Portugal.
