Sixth Form Options Afternoon

By Sapphire Clay Barker
Year Eleven

On Wednesday 14th February the Year Eleven parents and students, as well as students from other schools, were invited to a meeting about the Sixth Form. Some of the present Sixth Form students were present to help out serving tea, coffee and biscuits.
Work from every subject the school offers was on display. Also, pictures from the London Trip were on display as were pictures from the Dracula and Robin Hood and details of the positive examination results over the past few years. There were booklets for parents and students to take explaining about AS Levels and A Levels and booklets about the Sixth Form.
The talk started with Mrs Holland welcoming everyone to the meeting and introducing the different subject teachers.
Mrs Cole showed a slide show presentation and talked about the Sixth Form organisation, a typical school day for a sixth former, the Sixth Form facilities, privileges and responsibilities and the dress code. She also talked about which courses are on offer and explained how AS Level and A Level examinations work. Mrs Cole explained that at the end of Year Eleven there will be an induction into the Sixth Form week where the students will get the opportunity to learn how to study independently.
After Mrs Cole had finished, Mrs Daud, our Careers Advisor, also showed a slide show presentation. She talked about the different types of careers there are and how choosing the right AS and A Levels is very important. Also she explained what types of universities and colleges there are and what many are looking for. After the presentations the parents and students were free to wander around the hall and look at all the wonderful displays of work. The teachers stayed to answer any queries that the parents had about their subjects.
The options meeting was very helpful to all who came and many questions were answered about the Sixth Form. There were quite a few people who came to the meeting. There were Year Eleven students from other schools who may now be joining our Sixth Form in September, which we are all looking forward to.
We would like to thank all the teachers for making the meeting very informative and for all their effort in putting up the displays and answering queries at the meeting.
