| By Sapphire Clay Barker Year Eleven On Thursday 1st March, it was World Book Day. The students were given the option to come dressed as their favourite character from a book. The costumes represented a variety of different books ranging from Harry Potter to St Trillian’s Girls. There were princesses, fairies, Scooby Doo, astronauts, James Bond and even Michael Shumacher among the lower years. Among the upper years there was a Tinkerbell, Pippi Longstocking, Dumb and Dumber – but I’m not sure that is a book – and Men in Black. Students from Reception to Year Eleven participated and it was great fun to guess what character everyone was. Everyone had normal lessons but were excused in groups of three or four to participate in a day-long readathon in the school library, which was organised by Mrs Hicks. Each person read for five minutes and the chain of readers wasn’t broken at all throughout the entire day. All students participated in this – even the Sixth Form – and parents volunteered to come in and help young readers and to keep the readathon going. After lunch the lower years had a parade to show off all their costumes to the upper years and teachers. It was amazing to see how good their costumes were; it put the older students to shame. It was great to see everyone participating in World Book Day and it was great fun for everyone involved. Let’s hope we can surpass it next year. |
