Middle School Open Afternoon

By Mrs. Beverley Stevens

Middle School Open afternoon is a great chance for students to show the work that they do in lessons throughout the year. It is not a practised performance, but small presentations of work studied in class and displays of individual pieces of work or class displays covering topics on the curriculum.

The first part of the afternoon is a selection of presentations by the students of the Middle School covering all areas of the curriculum. We then have a short interval where parents can look at the displays around the hall and then the second half of the afternoon is a presentation by the Performing Arts Department.

This year's presentations included ballads written and recited by Year Eight and a presentation on how they organised and produced their own "novel", a debate by Year Seven about organic farming, World War I by Year Nine, and many other poems, stories and recitals.

The second half showcased the work the students have done in the Performing Arts and with Year Eight the links with their English studies, as they performed pieces from both "Romeo and Juliet" and "West Side Story". Year Seven and Year Nine joined forces to give fantastic performances from the musical “Oliver!”

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and what a great way to end the term. Well done to all performers!
