Lisbon Art Trip

By Caitlin Docker and Sam Warman
Year 11

It was a clear morning when we sleepily boarded the train to Lisbon and anxiously awaited our arrival. Several hours later, we were at our destination and making our way through the Lisbon streets to the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum. Those involved in the trip were the Year Eleven and Sixth Form Art students, accompanied by Ms. van Allen, Mrs. Foreman, and Mrs. Lewis. There was no charge for the entrance, so we tried our best to be excellent ambassadors of EISL.

The museum held various delights, including exquisite Persian rugs, ancient artifacts, and what we really came to see, the paintings, of which there were works by Monet, Manet and other famous artists. We used various media and were inspired by the artwork to produce our own interpretations.

“It’s important for students to see and experience a world of rich culture and art,” Ms. van Allen said. “And it isn’t that far away.”
