EISL Concert Wows Audiences

By Ed Baker

On Saturday the 4th June, the EISL band and singers performed at St Vincent’s English Country Faire in Lagoa. The band was scheduled to play from 14.00 to 15.00 and all arrived on time and ready to go.

The band set up and prepared their music. With the wind picking up and the stage being outside drastic measures were called for as clothes pegs were brought into action, bravely holding the musical scores in place fighting Mother Nature. Ok, maybe I’m over exaggerating a little but it was windy and we did have to clip our music down with pegs.

Our performance was preceded by The New Orleans Jazz Band, a tough act to follow indeed. However, after sound checks were done we began our performance. The band played old and new pieces including the recent U.K. number one Amarillo, of course with the absence of Rock around the Clock, the infamous Mr. Nunn began a somewhat altered version of Peter Kay’s comic dance to the piece.

An eventful day it was, but I’m afraid it does not end there. Much to our amusement we had an interruption when a lady ran on stage, grabbed a mic and gave the dreaded news…. No, Ladies and Gentlemen, the fair was not infested with fleas - it was much worse. “Tom” had abandoned his post at the cream stall. Although I have no idea who “Tom” actually is it was certainly an amusing addition to our program. Thankfully with no more interruptions the performance went well and everyone had a good time.  The whereabouts of “Tom” are as yet unknown.

Our next performance is scheduled for the 30th of June and we would like to see as many of you there as possible. It is then that Becky may be playing her harp for the last time at São Lourenço – something that will be sorely missed by us all.
