Cross Country January 2005 |
On Wednesday 19th January students from Year 5 to Year11 participated in a cross country event in Loulé. The distance ranged from 1000 metres to 2500 metres. All the participants did a wonderful job by trying to get as many points as possible. Exceptionally well done to the girls’ iniciados team who managed to win a trophy for coming in second place. Other pupils also did well and some gained medals. Many thanks to Mrs Stevens and Sr. Paulo because without their help we could not have participated and also for giving up their time to train us and turn us into good athletes. I would also like to thank all our supporters who came and supported us from the beginning to the end. I hope that there are lots more cross country events in the future inwhich our school can participate and, hopefully, win some more medals and trophies to display in the school office. |

| On Saturday 26th of February, all the cross-country runners met up at Vilamoura School, feeling hopeful that we might win a trophy to follow the one we won at the Loulé Run. This competition was for the International Schools of Portugal and taking part were: St Dominic’s, St Julian’s, the Preparatory School and the American School, all from Lisbon, Vilamoura and ourselves from the Algarve. We arrived at around 1:00 pm. For some of us the track was new and for others not, as they had already participated in the event last year, when we ( Iniciadas girls) missed third place by two points. | |
This year we had many more runners. Those representing the school were: Benjamins; Sacha Neising, Lucy Cova, Georgina Johnson, Ellen Hopkisson, Milou Metz, Janina Peeters, Luke Gurton, Benjamin Kirke, Ben Cartwright, Thomas Kirke, Michael Parry, Thomas Jenkins, Alexander Waymark and George Cooley. Infantis; Ainé Campbell, Naomi Dargue, Matthew Silva, Sam Pugsley, Keanu Griffin, Dominic Welch and Vincent Lutz. Iniciados; Elina Millere, Emma Stevens, Hannah Kemish, Theresa Schwark, Charlotte Stovold, Joshua Silva, Philipp Haberlach and Jorge Figueira. Juvenis; Charlotte Still, Sabine Hindermann, Hazel Mellars, Daniel Silva, Emil Ougendal, Patricio Perez Ipar, Sam Segurado. Finally, Sao Lourenco is making a name for themselves at these International Schools’ events. This time we didn’t win just one trophy - we won 3 team trophies and 2 individual medals ! The Benjamins boys and the Inicidias girls both won the 3rd team place. The Juvenis boys won 2nd team place, and we even had individual winners when Matt Silva come 3rd and Daniel Silva a fantastic 1st place. So it was a successful and enjoyable day for all. |
