Wow this was a cosmic encounter! I enjoyed it tremendously! On January 23rd Sr.Paulo Serrão took a bunch of children for snowboarding in the Sierra Nevada. He was accompanied by four of his friends who taught us how to snowboard. We left the school on the Friday at 6.30 p.m. to hopefully reach Sierra Nevada by midnight (Spanish time). It was a long journey but well worth it! As we got nearer the mountains people started to ask: “Where’s the snow?” As we drove even higher “We still can’t see the snow, where is it?” but as we went around the corner we could see the pure white glory (but of course, only I appreciated it because everyone had fallen asleep). When we arrived at the Marbella building (Youth hostel) we completely collapsed on the beds, until Sr. Paulo began clicking his fingers the next morning pretending to be a flamenco dancer. We hit the slopes at around 9.00 a.m. where we had our first lesson. It was real fun, but when we eventually got to go on the beginners’ slope some of us were a bit shaky. This was like stage fright and after about two times we were all on our way to becoming fantastic snowboarders.

At the end of the first day three of us including myself went down the river slope which is the longest slope there and believe me it was tiring! By the end of the day we were all shattered and all we wanted was a good ten hours of sleep! The next morning we woke up especially early to get at least seven hours of snowboarding in before our long bus excursion back to the school car park. The second day was just as good as the first, in fact even better because some of us went on one of the really high slopes (including me of course). The higher we went the more petrified I became and as we reached the top I looked down and, oh my, I was scared. The view was fantastic but that wasn’t what I was thinking about, I hooked my feet on to the snowboard and away I went. When I eventually made it to the bottom I was tired but proud of myself, so I decided to go on the slope just one more time before I left. We went back to the hostel and packed our bags and with a quick glance said goodbye to a place of memories! This was the best trip I have ever been on and if Sr. Paulo did it again I would definitely go on it, so a big Thank You to him and his friends!
