IGCSE Physical Education Course at EISL

17/10/01

What is the course like?

Students take part in regular PE lessons during the week with their class plus two double lessons per week of either theory or extended PE. In theory lessons you learn about how your skeleton and muscles work and in the the extended lessons you learn about your fitness and how to improve it.

What do you choose?

You can choose from several sections of sport from team sport to dance. All together there are six sections. Out of the six sections you have to choose four. This year everyone has chosen to do either golf, football, basketball, tennis or squash. Then everyone has to take part in Camp Craft and Swimming.

What is Camp Craft?

It is similar to the Duke of Edinburgh award for the walking part. There is more to it though as you have to set-up camp and stay and then walk 36km for a period of 1 or 2 days and nights. You have to make, and supply, a kit list.

Tennis, Golf, Squash and Swimming

These are all out of school activities. Swimming is done in a 50 metre pool.
This year there are six students doing the IGCSE PE course. We have already completed a walk in the mountains of Loulé and this took about six hours. Next half term we are doing swimming. The course is two years long with an exam at the end making 40% of your grade. The physical part is videoed and is 60% of the overall mark.
