A party of
eighteen from the school flew to Jordan via Madrid on 18th April
where it was hosted for ten days by parents and teachers of
students of the New English School in Amman.
The students in the group ranged from 11-15 years in age. For
them this was their first experience of the Middle East. Their
itinerary included visits to Petra, the Dead Sea, Aqaba and the
ancient Roman City of Jerash.

Other new experiences included sampling Arabic buffets, buying
the traditional headgear and learning a few words of the
language. They soon understood the need to bargain in the souk!

Diary and photographic competitions on the subject of the journey
were organised by the staff and judged upon the group's return by
Peter Reid and Jerry Strivers.
The whole party was overwhelmed by the hospitality of the
Jordanians who regularly waived tourist fees because a school
group was involved. The students were particularly fascinated by
the wealth of sea creatures observed whilst they were snorkelling
in the Red Sea.
