A group of
fund-raisers and helpers for the local children's home went down
last weekend to be shown around. Afterwards the helpers stayed on
to play games and care for some of the children. The children are
aged between 0-12 years, both boys and girls.
When our group of "Prémio Infante D. Henrique"
fund-raisers and helpers first arrived they were shown around the
homeby a really friendly lady who introduced them all to some of
the workers and the children. The children were shy but very
sweet and some of our helpers found that once the children had
got used to them being there they were very friendly, although
some of them were quite mischievous! The home was cramped but the
children are very well looked after. They go to a local school,
which has an additional section especially for the home. The home
is very tidy and quite well equipped but the children are all
longing for the luxury of a football table. This is something
that the fund-raisers hope to raise enough money for.
After the tour and introduction the fund-raisers went home whilst
the helpers stayed on to play games and help care for the
children including a 3 month old baby in their crèche. The
helpers will be spending alternative weekends there caring,
playing games and generally giving time to the children who have
no regular visitors until June as the community service section
of the Prémio Infante D. Henrique Award Scheme.
