Staffing
I would like to welcome to the school the following new staff:
- Ms Driscoll, part time assistant in Year 2;
- Ms Stovold, temporary part time assistant in Pre-school;
- Mrs Denney, speech therapist and learning support assistant.
- Ms Dowson-Boyes, part time physical education teacher for Pre-school and Reception.
Examinations
It has been decided that internal examinations for Key Stage 2 and 3 should now take place near the end of the year (sometime in May), rather than in January. Years Ten and Eleven will remain the same (January) because of IGCSE courses.
PTA
The first PTA meeting under the new structure takes place on Tuesday 3rd October at 7:30pm . I look forward to a positive start for the association. Registration slips are available in the school office.
Karate
Karate will be offered as an extra curricular activity on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30pm until 7:30pm in the school hall. Daniel Coelho will be at school on Wednesday 4th October to speak to parents whose children are interested in taking part in this activity.
Halloween Spooky Movies Night
A Halloween event will be taking place on Thursday 26th October in the school hall. Tickets will be €3. Further information to follow.
Christmas Fayre
Sunday 19th November 11:00am until 4:00pm . This is becoming a very popular annual event. Donations for the school stall are needed such as: books, video/cd/dvd's, unwanted gifts, toys in good condition and raffle prizes. Any parent requiring a stall should put their request in writing to Dona Lesley (Year Two Coordinator).
Harvest Festival - Friday October 20th
Assembly involving all Key Stages. Nearer the time, your child's class will be collecting food, to be distributed to the needy, within the local community. We would appreciate any donations towards this.
Handbooks
Please refer to the relevant handbook for your child's Key Stage on school rules and regulations. I would like to take this opportunity to remind parents of the following:
- correct uniform should be worn;
- black leather school shoes, not trainers;
- shirts should be worn tucked in, apart from girls' fitted shirts.
- no jewellery except a single simple pair of gold sleeper earrings (this is for safety reasons) and/or a watch;
- long hair should be tied back
- chewing gum is not allowed in school, for obvious reasons;
- mobile phones, if brought as an emergency, must be handed in to the office and retrieved after school.
Parent/Teacher Meetings
Meetings will be held after school on Monday 13 th and Wednesday 15 th November. You will be able to sign up for appointments with teachers in the school office after the half term break.
Holiday Dates For Your Diary
Thursday 5th October: Implantação da República
Half term break: school closes after Friday 27th October and re-opens on Monday 6th November.
The school office will remain open during this week.
Friday 1st December: Restauração da Independência
Friday 8th December: Imaculada Conceição
Friday 15th December: school closes at 12:00 midday for Christmas Holiday
Punctuality
Please ensure that your child/children arrive at school before 8:45am , as lateness to registration/lessons has a disruptive effect.
Dogs
Please do not bring your dog into school when collecting children.
Car Park
I feel the car park situation has eased a little but may I remind you of the following:
- vehicles should enter the gateway and turn right and exit up the drive so that traffic is flowing in one direction only;
- cars parked in front of the drive should be facing the drive for easy exiting;
- cars parked in the middle of the car park should be parked in one line down the middle, facing the drive
- the two lanes either side of the middle row of cars should be kept clear for continuous movement around the car park and
- lastly, the numerous discussions that take place every morning and afternoon increases the number of stationary cars on the car park. May I suggest that these take place in more comfortable surroundings, such as in the numerous cafés in the vicinity.
Tuck Shop
After half term, the Sixth Form will run a Tuck Shop at break time for Key Stage 3 upwards.
They will endeavour to keep in focus our healthy eating policy. Funds generated will be used to improve the Sixth Form Common Room.
Continente – books
The supermarket Continente has a special offer at the moment whereby if you buy books over the value of €30 you can nominate a school to receive some school books. Please nominate EISL if you purchase books at Continente.
