December Newsletter

Dear Parents,
We are nearly at the end of a very eventful term. As you can see from the Governors’ announcement, the burning issue of a new Head Teacher has been resolved!
I am sure that we are all excited at the prospect of the school moving into yet another successful era, under the leadership of Mr. McGuire. His letters to everyone in our school community indicate a personality who is very much aware of the importance of partnership in a school’s success. I would like to extend my own personal congratulations to him on his appointment and look forward to working alongside him. On more mundane matters, please take the time to read this newsletter and make a note of any important dates. I would like to thank the staff and pupils for all their hard work throughout the term and especially at this very busy time of year. Also I would like to give a big thank you to parents, staff and pupils for the generous responses to charity appeals and for support given towards all the events which have taken place this term. I wish you all a happy, joyful and restful holiday.
Kind Regards

Mrs Sam Durham
Acting Head Teacher

Carnival

I know it is a little early to be thinking of Carnival but Key Stage One and Year 3 are already preparing for the parade on February 16th. The theme will be “Knights and Princesses, Horses and Unicorns” (and maybe a dragon!). They need your boxes - rectangular and big enough for a child’s body to fit inside! Please keep any suitable boxes opened at Christmas and bring them to D. Lesley in January.

Uniforms

From January, Mrs Redpath is available for the sale of new uniforms every day from 8:30am until 9:30am.

More extra-curricular activities on offer.

Golf lessons for children. Style and Fashion course for pupils 11 to 18 years of age. Leaflet to follow. Dutch lessons for Dutch children still a possibility, if enough of a demand. Further details from School Office.

Christmas Hampers Appeal

Mrs de Vareilles is once again organising the collection of food to put in Christmas Hampers for the very poor of the Loulé area. Donations of traditional Portuguese tinned or packet food (not Christmas puddings and mince pies!) should be delivered to D. Ana Maria’s office or directly to Mrs deVareilles. Thank you, in advance, for your generosity; many disadvantaged people will have a happier Christmas because of it.

Football

On Monday 4th December EISL football team played Vale Verde International School, of which our ex-colleague Roger Foreman is the Head Teacher. It was a very close game, with Vale Verde scoring first, but our team finally won the match 6:3. We hope to have more matches in the future with Vale Verde and other schools.

Boys' Basketball tournament “Varsity”

On the 27th & 28th of November, the boys ‘Varsity’ team went to Lisbon. They played very well and won several games although they were the youngest team playing. Alexander Holmström Forster received an MVP (most valued player) award and trophy which made the team and manager Sr Paulo very proud.
